Jim Seward brings more than two decades of experience in human services to his role as a mental health therapist at Optimae Behavioral Health Services in central Iowa, serving as a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC).

Jim’s expertise includes working with anxiety disorders, stress management, depression, bereavement and grief, life management and counseling, and parenting issues. Jim is well-versed in building connections, fostering human interaction, encouraging others, managing conflict and understanding spirituality as a component of wellness.

Prior to joining Optimae, Jim served as an assistant and adjunct professor, a therapist, a clinical supervisor and director, a chief executive officer, and a master- and post-master-level supervisor for a youth services bureau and a university center dedicated to scholarship and social justice.

Jim earned his bachelor of science degree in religious education and psychology from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo., his master’s degree in counseling education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., and his doctor of education degree in psychology counseling education from Argosy University in Chicago.

Jim is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, American Counseling Association, , American Mental Health Counseling Association, American Psychology Association and Iowa Mental Health Counseling Association. In addition to his licensed mental health counselor certification, he is a national certified counselor.

Currently, Jim serves customers from Eldora, Iowa Falls and the surrounding areas.
