Allison Malcolm

LMSW, Therapist

Allison Malcolm is based in Optimae’s Fort Madison office and sees customers in Lee and Des Moines counties, providing care both in person and through telehealth. She has more than 15 years of human services experience.

Allison has worked with individuals and families to address a wide variety of concerns, including depression/mood disorders, anxiety, stress management, co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions, PTSD/trauma, grief, crisis intervention and family/relationship issues. She sees customers of all ages but is most comfortable working with adults and adolescents ages 10 and older.

Allison believes therapy/counseling is a collaborative process that involves creating a safe space for people to be heard, to process thoughts, feelings and events, and to make decisions about the present and future. She is person-centered and often uses solution-focused, strengths-based therapy, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing techniques and trauma-informed care.

Allison invites anyone who has felt disenfranchised or judged — whether by therapists, family, peers or society in general — to try counseling. She wants customers to know: “You are welcome here.”

Allison received her Master of Social Work with a clinical focus from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an associate of applied science degree in chemical dependency counseling from Southeastern Community College. She is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) and certified alcohol and drug counselor (CADC).
