Aug. 7, 2020 (Des Moines) – Optimae LifeServices announced today a partnership with the League of Women Voters Metropolitan Des Moines Chapter to provide mobile voter registration and absentee ballot applications to residents around the Des Moines metro.
By converting the food truck of Railroad Bill’s Dining Car — an Optimae microbusiness providing supported employment services to Iowans with disabilities — into a “LWV Voter Mobile,” Optimae and the League are reaching diverse communities in a safe, easily accessible environment.
“We are so excited for our LMV Voter Mobile to start its journey,” said Christie Gerken, LWVMDM Voter Registration Chairperson. “Through the generosity of Optimae LifeServices, we have the opportunity to use their food truck to drive to locations in our community to offer voter registration events.”
The truck’s first stop will be Saturday, Aug. 8 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at 513 E. 6th Street in Des Moines, on Optimae’s East Village campus.
“Optimae is pleased to launch this project with the League of Women Voters,” said Bill Dodds, Optimae president and CEO. “As a provider of services that focuses on community integration, we look forward to this important outreach to our neighbors across the Des Moines metro.”
