Katherine Lowary

PMHNP-BC, ARNP, DNP, Prescriber

Katherine Lowary, DNP, is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) at Optimae Behavioral Health Services in the southeast Iowa region. She provides medication management for all ages, always striving to create a partnership with each patient because no one knows you better than you.

Katherine originally started with Optimae as a behavioral health nurse in 2015. After seeing the significant need for psychiatric providers in rural Iowa, she went back to school to become one herself. Being born and raised in small-town Iowa, she knows firsthand how wonderful, and yet difficult, rural living can be.

After serving 10 years on active duty in the United States Air Force, Katherine became a registered nurse in 2014 with an Associate of Science in Nursing from Kaplan College in Las Vegas, Nevada. She then completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University through distance learning in 2017 and obtained her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) with psychiatric focus with the University of Iowa in 2022.

Katherine is a licensed advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) within the state of Iowa and is board certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP-BC), which allows her to prescribe medications to manage psychiatric concerns.
